All professional Dental Practitioners (Dentists, Denturists, Dental Therapists, Oral Hygienists and Dental Specialists) have an obligation to the community by reinforcing and supporting all Health professionals’ roles with appropriate referrals, especially those practising within the Oral Health Team. Denturists work independently with denture wearers, and collaboratively with other Health Care providers where necessary or appropriate. This working relationship provides the development of mutual acceptance. Positive assertive collaboration between Denturists and Dentists proves to assure the oral well-being of the public.

Similar to all other members of health-associated professions, Denturists must practice safely, ethically and effectively for the promotion of oral-health and well-being of the public.

Additional skills which Denturists could develop during their career include:

  • Oral health education
  • Re-cementing crowns with temporary cement
  • Removing sutures for immediate dentures, after the wound has been checked by a Dentist
